A Dymaxion Map of the Corpse of Ymir 

On display will be a collection of necessary futile proposals serving as harbingers of a new back to the land movement. The title of the exhibit is taken from the centerpiece of the show, a reworking of my father’s exhumed Whole Earth catalog redesigned to include landscapes from Norwegian Black Metal album covers.  The combination of the ideals of the catalog and the album covers inspired by Norse mythology propose an entirely new meaning to the phrase “back to the land”.  Other necessary futile proposals include an imploding archive of outdated scientific images and landscapes, the truth about the Loch Ness monster, bad deliveries of bad jokes as an effort towards transendence, cast off guffaws, and more.

From Ymir’s flesh the earth was formed,

          and from his bones the hills,
          the heaven from the skull of that ice-cold giant
          and from his blood the sea.
We are all astronauts on spaceship Earth.

C.Smith works in sculpture, drawing, archiving, and the development of micro-institutions.  He has shown at countless artist run spaces in Chicago and has hosted exhibitions out of his apartment in a number of capacities. Most notably he has organized exhibitions to take place in his medicine cabinet at +medicine cabinet.  He has also organized ad hoc computer labs showcasing animated GIFs at the Octagon and the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago.  He is currently involved in curating a cemetery at his new outdoor space the TERRAFORMER.

John Knight– Statement- ΜΕΣ(s)Α Project Space – Meaningless Less Meaning
It is probably less interesting to interpret the meaning of a ready-made, checkered bed sheet, or one depicting a moonlit, galloping horse, that to realize that this throwaway image-in its very meaninglessness – is here being reclaimed as pure means.1 In other words, such a gesture doesn’t care to fulfill any particular end to succeed in accomplishing some ultimate significance or work.2 Filling the space as it does, it exhibits the “place” of painting, and returns this place to its own possibility.3

New work: objects, images, and a rocket launch.

Even those that seemed to succeed were failures—especially those… How many times could you give your best friend the finger before it just quit being any fun at all? And how dumont was it to believe that doing so accomplished anything meaningful, let alone useful? Wasn’t to believe that but a way to be arranged? Maybe even the worst kind of arranged? ΜΕΣ(s)Α Presents: Short Court by Chicago Based Artist Jake Myers

Whatever you may call it the current installation Short Court by artist Jake Myers explores the interplay between player, spectatorship, and the specific spatial limitations found at ΜΕΣ(s)Α Project Space. While Myers’s video work, sculptures and installations are formally diverse they are strengthened and placed under his coinage and thematic concerns of Relational Athletics.

Jake Myers lives, works, and teaches in Chicago. Myers was a curator at the Pentagon Gallery in Chicago and has exhibited work at the Current Gallery in Baltimore, The Milk Factory Gallery in Chicago, and at Viracocha in San Francisco

New work by artist Carl Klimt this Thursday Oct. 13th 6:30-9:30

  The National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) is the United States government’s
official list of districts, sites, buildings, structures, and objects deemed worthy of preservation.

For most of its history the National Register has been administered and operated by the National

Park Service. Its goals are to help property owners and interest groups, such as the National

Trust for Historic Preservation, coordinate, identify, protect, preserve, conserve, organize, publicize

and archive historic sites in the United States.
